Perhaps we can hold crossover events with the other guilds like RP sparring or some other show of strength as a way to train each other and increase our RP combat skills? For example, if we were to challenge the forces of the Shadowreave to spar training, we would meet up with them, have each person assigned to another person, and fight while someone watches everyone else to kind of referee the matches. I think it would be a good way to get our members back into the practice of RP fighting, and actually help everyone in the long run. What do you guys think of that?

one of the problems my guild has encountered with combat RP was getting back some of the unanticipated feel that real combat had. For example, in RP combat someone can simply say "So n so leaps into the air and brings his sword down onto this n that, instantly killing them." Not only is that godmoding, but it's not fun, not creative, and just goes against any good RP rules out there.
To combat this, my guild would do a roll based combat RP that would go something like this:
"X lunges forward, sweeping his sword around in a wide arc, attempting to bring Y off balance." X and Y then roll.
X rolls 45 (1-100) Y Rolls 58 (1-100)
Since Y rolled higher the move fails and Y can now make a counter attack.
"Y leaps backwards, avoiding the sweeping strike and crouches down, spinning around with their leg to knock X to the ground."
They roll again.
Y rolls 72 (1-100) X rolls 13 (1-100)
Since Y rolled higher, the attack is successful, and X is forced to acknowledge that.
"X's eyes widen in suprise as their feet are knocked out from under them, falling onto their back."
When an attack is successful, the victorious person can make a follow up attack until the one that lost the roll wins one, we make it go on like this until someone scores 5 points and then wins a finishing blow roll.
We don't have to do this, I've always just liked it because it brings back a level of uncertainty in fighting during RP. Keep in mind that if a character wants a certain hit against them to be sucessful, they can always opt out of the roll

I like the idea, it keeps RP battles short and to the point. Just keep in mind that no killing blows would be made during these specific battles. The use of this system will also have to depend on the other guild's terms of battle.

Yes I agree with Bols. It looks to be a very simple straightforward system, not too dissimilar to how we used to do combat back in the Yahoo RP rooms of Rhyden many many years ago.
We could perhaps test this out eventually? As far as the different styles of combat, text based fighting can get tricky, seeing as how the two involved generally do not want to get hit. It kills realism imho. This adds some sense of urgency as you do not know truly how the outcome will be.
